Recent Mediterranean water cycle changes: a pathway toward long-term regional hydroclimatic change?Annarita Mariotti (ENEA and UMD/ESSIC)
The observational analysis of Mediterranean Sea water cycle variability based on recently available datasets provides new insights on the long-term changes which affected the region since the 1960s. These results are compared with those from an ensemble of CMIP3 multi-model 20th century simulations. A major question addressed by this research is whether the results from the observational analyses are consistent with the "transition" suggested by the CMIP3 simulations for the Mediterranean as a pathway toward future projected changes.
